Sunny Sunflower Seed Bread!

05/27/2020

My opinion

The Jain family consumes one loaf of bread every week, so we have to be creative with our loaves of bread! So instead of eating bread from Wholefoods, my mom decided to make them fresh at home. We bought Breville's bread maker, which is expensive but very useful.

Making bread is very simple and fun. All you have to do is to mix in the proper ingredients and let the machine do its magic. The best part of this dish was that I got to finally know what ingredients make a bread. Also, because my parents have high sensitivity to wheat, we used gluten-free flour, which is healthy for the body. My dad cannot go a day without his morning toast, so making homemade break weekly is a must for our family.

According to my research, making a loaf of bread costs 50% less than buying one - including electricity.

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 tbsp flax seed powder

 3 tbsp flax seed

 1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1 tsp salt, 2 tsp brown sugar

 2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp yogurt ( to replace 1 egg)

1 1/2 cup warm water

 3 tsp yeast.

Directions

- Mix up all the dry ingredients separately and the wet ingredients in warm water.

- Once these are separately mixed then add them together and make a dough.

- Cover and leave for 1 hour at warm room temperature.

- Knead the dough again after an hour and leave for another hour to rise again.

-  After which put it in a bread baking pan and bake it for 45 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit

Fun Facts

- Scandinavian traditions hold that if a boy and girl eat from the same loaf, they are bound to fall in love

- Superstition says it is bad luck to turn a loaf of bread upside down or cut an unbaked loaf.

-The ancient Greeks were already producing more than 80 types of bread in 2500 B.C.
