About me

Hi, my name is Megha Jain and this is my story. Let's just say that my day begins and ends with food. Having been a vegetarian my entire life I've been limited to my dining options. However, that does not stop my mom and me from trying new restaurants and dishes. Some are amazing but too expensive while others are cheap but lack the "tasty component". Vegetarian food and restaurants recently are getting "hyped" as they are known for weight loss and lower health risks. As much as that is true, cooking at home makes the dishes healthier, tastier and family members happier.

Over the years, I have realized that the Jain family prefers eating at home. I mean who doesn't like fresh, tasty food made with love!

What begins as a chore...

Being a vegetarian has both its pros and cons that I have learned to embrace as a part of my identity. I appreciate how environmentally friendly my diet is and how healthy it has made me. Although I get questioned daily about how I get my "nutrition," without eating meat, I have learned to silence the critiques and do my own research. Vegetarians can obtain nutrients by eating a variety of foods without ever getting bored. As a coping mechanism to continue our tradition of eating fresh food, my family started growing fruits vegetables in our garden. We've been doing that for the past 15 years! We have produced so much varying from tomatoes to pumpkins. It has become a ritual for the Jain family to maintain our garden.

During the quarantine period, my family decided to make it a point to grow a variety of vegetables and beans so we can avoid going out at any cost. So the dishes presented in the blog are made with some homegrown veggies, and some bought from the local market. We wanted to use a lot of homegrown veggies, but the weather is too cold! We are doing our part in helping the eco-system by growing plants and using them in the right away. Lastly, this blog inspired by my mother's passion for cooking and my fondness of her food
